Print Ontario, now the fourth-largest printing trade show in North America, was the biggest industry event of 2004 in Canada, bringing together leading manufacturers, dealers, distributors, trade houses and visitors from all over Canada and several parts of the United States. The mood on the show floor was buoyant as manufacturers introduced new products to the Canadian marketplace and visitors demonstrated interest and enthusiasm in buying again. Rounding out the package were a series of seminars and a new print software theatre that drew steady crowds to see the latest software packages. Print Ontario is the only show in North America targeted exclusively at the shorter-run market, a thriving sector of the print industry once thought to be the exclusive realm of small print shops, but which now attracts printers of all sizes, especially with the advent of digital presses. It also attracted leading manufacturers, such as KBA which has entered the short-run market with its waterless Genius press, Heidelberg, and MAN Roland, as well as digital giants like Xerox, Canon, HP and Kodak. Here’s a look at the action.
